The guy was abrasive, caustic, insulting, stubborn, mean, angry, demeaning, and intolerant of any opinion at odds with his own.
But, damn, he could write.
And, clearly, my original, intentional implication in writing that had been that the last made up for the rest, but on reflection I’m not so sure.
