The Strib changed its story over night. Now the girl was slashed with a razor and not stabbed with a knife.

I’m impressed with the redundant language style:
The victim, 14, underwent surgery. Police say the suspect also is a girl, 14.

This post begins with the disclaimer: Yes, I’m old. I probably don’t get it. But why do too many young people get into these fights and settle their differences with such violence? Do they not get the consequences? I think of my 14-year-old self and could never imagine fighting, let along stabbing or slashing someone. Any theories out there?

you can’t imagine getting into a fight at age 14? i got into fights all the time at that age (no knives though, just fists). i’m surprised she didn’t shoot her – the slashing is kinda old-skool.

I worked with girls at a shelter in St. Paul for a few years – Some of these girls couldn’t believe that I (and other staff) had never been in a fight before. These girls had no problem solving ability and turned to physical aggression and/or yelling and being generally intimidating to get there way.
After meeting their Mothers and seeing the way that they dealt with problems and lived there life I have a pretty good idea of where these girls learned these behaviors.
Not From Here — It seemed like even though they now there will be consequences it is so common for people they know to fight, be in JDC (Juvenile Detention Center), and have Probation Officers that it really isn’t a big deal to them

Incidents like this happen becoause our income tax system is not progressive enough. No correct-thinking Minnesotan can deny these sorts of events are the direct result of not paying enough income taxes.
I rest comfortable knowing that the one-two punch of Larry and Marge will protect us from this danger in the future. When all sharp things are finally outlawed, only outlaws will have sharp things.

Not From Here — The article said the attack might have been gang related. Were you in a gang at 14? That might explain why you did or did not get into fights.
Poor kids! If they are kniving each other at 14, how are they going to be solving their conflicts in 5 or 10 years? Not good!
8:51 am
Maybe if we didn’t let kids run the schools/households, society would be producing more well-rounded, mature children.
8:55 am
Where were the parents? Parents need to make sure their kids don’t have access to knives or box cutters or razor blades.
9:02 am
Poor kids!
Are you feeling sorry for the knifer or the knifee?
9:31 am
Yeah, I meant, poor kid who got knived. : (

“Poor kids! If they are kniving each other at 14, how are they going to be solving their conflicts in 5 or 10 years?“
Dead people have no conflicts.

Annnnnd, predictably, not a word from or about their parents…
