I took my family to the Longfellow Grill today for breakfast. We have a 6 month old girl, and a two year old boy. It is a perfect place to take a kid because it is noisy, so fewer people will need to hear it if number one son decides to start bellowing halfway through the meal (he didn't, score!).

The waitress automatically delivered to our table:
Crayons and a coloring book-style placemat,

and:

A tub of little kids toys that looked like they had been freshly washed (or maybe it was drool from the last rugrat who played with them, who knows?).

In any event, it looks like the LG has decided to warmly embrace kids and families, so those uptight types who can't stand to be around kids may want to look elsewhere.....

I think people should open their own restaurant and implement the idea. I'm sure the no kids section would be as effective as the no smoking section was. The smoke always wafts over to the other side.

I'd repeatedly go to a restaurant that had a no kids section.

Seriously - this is a major problem these days. I'd say it's developed into a far worse problem in the last 5-7 years or so.

I get the impression many times that parents are actually charmed or find it funny when their kids act like absolute monsters in public.... We've moved far away from discipline, and now parents are told to support their children in every single one of their endeavors lest we damage them emotionally. So instead of scolding the children, parents instead "suggest" that their children behave, which naturally doesn't work.

It's especially annoying to me, considering I've made a conscious choice to not bring another child into this world.... The ones that are being born are being coddled instead of being raised properly. I really have to resist actually walking up to some parents and yelling at them for being so goddamn stupid.

Visions of Easter, all the flowers and gaily colored clothes never seemed to fit into the northern Minnesota landscape that was brown and gray at Easter. Often cold as hell Just like this year. When I was a kid I wondered who lived like that.
