DOS Attack & Happy Hour

I got to Nyes late, after the MPR global warming forum about 8:15, and also didn’t see anyone I recognized there.

Not a total waste, as I got a great dinner (walleye sandwich & potato salad), an okay Martini (albiet a little small) and a chance to watch the Twins tie it up (they would later win) on the small screen near the tiny stage where World’s Most Dangerous Polka Band plays Fridays and Saturdays.

All in all, not a bad way to end a long hard Tuesday.

after the MPR global warming forum

Heh. It’s 17 degrees outside on April 4th as I write this. Embrace global warming!

You are talking about local weather. We talked about global climate. Big difference. There was a little girl there, with her dad, who asked Kathy W. a good question about mass transit and global warming.

You should talk to that 7-year-old, maz, you might learn a thing or two.

Heh.

I can’t go! I already have plans! Boo for that!

Oh, so she’s the one providing the left with their talking points. I knew it had to be someone like her. heh

Respond to that part instead.

I think at 19 degrees this fine morning, Maz was not questioning global warming, but hoping it was happening.

I’ll let him speak for himself, now.

So if a cold day disproves Global Warming, do lower gas prices mean the war is going awesome?!

Meet Minneapolis (formerly known as the Greater Mpls Convention & Visitors Association) is hosting a networking HH @ Rock Bottom that same night (4/10) @ 5pm…I remember seeing something about free beer & appetizers on the invite…I’ll see if I can dig it up & I’ll re-post it here

I would be happy to lead the pre-event at Nyes at 4:30 p.m.

Perhaps if I call it “Celebrating Global Warming Day Happy Hour” maz will come.

Nothing like the looming spectere of floods, drought, famine, deforestation, and political turmoil around the world and in our own back yards to make the hour happy. All beers will be served at 87 degrees to give us a taste of what’s to come, if we don’t start taking action now.

If one day is enough to refute global warming then when it was a record 80+ degrees on March 26th is enough to definitively support it. Because whatever the temperature is in Minneapolis is reflected the world over.

They were talking about global warming, foriegn oil and the choices we Minnesotans can make in Albert Lea last night. One of our staff drove down and was on the experts panel.

No one is disputing that the earths average temperature is rising.

NO ONE!

What some paid hacks with their wallets willed with fossil fuel cash are attempting to say is that it is not caused by man so there is nothing we can do about it. Which is a little silly too, if you think about it.

Damn I meant filled! not willed.

Like, by referring to this as an interglacial period?

You remember the story of that railroad worker back in the 19th Century who had a nail slammed through his skull? He survived but lost all sense of empathy and his conscience went “adios.” I wonder if Maz had something like that happen to him in the 80s.

I love it when these college kids sound off on their “expert” concept of the innerworkings of the world. The Earth is a large, powerful planet. A little exhaust isn’t going to do much at all.

Did I mention my degree was in Geology?

This week, the Supreme Court ordered the EPA to rewrite pollution standards for global warming emissions. This denies Bush administration claims that carbon dioxide is NOT an air pollutant under the Clean Air Act, and that the EPA has no power to do anything about it.

It took a four-year court battle to get this far, but progress is being made.

Glad to know that 27 billion metric tons is “a little exhaust”. That was just what the world produced in 2004, and a few billion more since then… Just a tiny amount! Nothing to concern yourself with.

“College kids?” True, I graduated college, but I’m no kid.

More words of wisdom from the troll du jour.

Oh I forgot: This thread is about Matt getting stood up at Nye’s.

Consider it a belated April’s Fools joke from your MNspeak family, Matt.

I believe it was Jefferson who said, “a little global warming now and then is a good thing.”

I was going to buy everyone dinner, too. Too bad. My girlfriend and I shared the Polonaise Platter… yum.

Actually, I’ll be at Solera with a friend getting drunk in the middle of the day! Yay!

Yeah!!!

The bartender there kind of rules.

solera kind of sucks

I love Solera. Can’t afford it, though.

That is a good restaurant

I don’t even know where Solera is …?

sounds like a place for money bags to me, though.

http://www.solera-restaurant.com/

It’s Spanish tapas. Good Spanish tapas, but it can cost some money.

The Rat and his wife went there on his birthday

you know what, screw it
I don’t want to leave my neighbourhood anyway

Good to see we got off the lame/boring/depressing topic and moved onto something fun, like drinking.

Why can’t we just keep it at Nye’s this week? Then we can make a list of all the other places in Minneapolis we want to invade, and that way it will be orderly, planned, and people can count on it.

that railroad worker back in the 19th Century who had a nail slammed through his skull

Phinneaus Gage (sp?) was his name…

So Nye’s next Tuesday, and then someplace else we all want to go next time?

Oh, you must be a kindergarten teacher or something, Amber. Cheers!

How about a crawl of all the places in Wayne’s World he hates? That would fill an evening or two.

You’re going to go to lunds and punch pizza?

that’s a short night.

I’m totally there, but who the heck is going to smoke with me now???

I’ll probably still smoke once I get a drink or two in me.

Yeah. Get a drink or two in me and I still breakdance.

Oh sure, and then Mr. Lungs will blame ME for corrupting you…

I was already corrupted. I’m just playing coy when sober.

I don’t choose my friends by their smoking preference. Or any preference, for that matter.
