Mmmmmm, pi!
11:33 am
I prefer Mole Day (October 23) myself.
Yes, I’m a big dork.
11:38 am
I never heard of Pi day until this year. What gives? Who’s the marketing genius pushing Pi? Wayne?
11:39 am
Today is 3.14 (March 14th) Pi is approximately 3.14159265… Get it? Wayne isn’t the only math person in the crowd.
11:43 am
I get it… I just never heard of it before. Of course, now every bizarre number combination is going to want its own day.
11:46 am
The Euler-Mascheroni constant gets its own day over my stiffened corpse!
11:52 am
How would 0.5772.. get it’s own day? The 57th of the 0th month? May 77th? You’re safe. e (2.72828…) won’t get its own day either.
11:55 am
I’d never heard of Mole Day, either. But I agree with Elizabeth – it is waaaay cooler than Pi Day.
12:06 pm
“How would 0.5772.. get it’s own day?“
Technically, that occurs this year partway through June 30th, but by convention it’s celebrated on June 31st. I’m glad you mentioned this one, ‘cuz I always forget the shopping for it until it’s too late.
.

Ever seen the movie Pi? 181818181818181818181818
Hey, Friday is John 3:16 day! Everybody make a sign and stand behind the ‘CCO tv window!
12:15 pm
Actually, shouldn’t July 29th be the day? (.5771… x 365 ~ 210.678) So that would be around 4:12PM on July 29th. On a non leap year…
Enough Geekery for one day I think!
12:18 pm
If I remember my college physics classes correctly no one really uses Pi past about the ten thousandths place and that you really only need the first few decimals for enough precision to send someone to the moon.
When is Fibonacci Sequence going to get its only holiday?
2:40 pm
I think you’re right. I shouldn’t have tried the calculation on pi day – I’m already giddy and dazed from mathlove.
3:09 pm
If I remember my college physics classes correctly no one really uses Pi past about the ten thousandths place
I’m sure that is true. I would think that 3.14 would get you safely to the moon. It is all about margin of error and significant digits. But that is all applied math. More accurate values of Pi are for theoretical mathematicians. You know “Crazy People”.
When is Fibonacci Sequence going to get its only holiday?
Let’s see… We would start something like this:
1.1.02
1.2.03
2.3.05
3.5.08
I would say March 5, 2008.
(So I lied about the Geekery…)
4:03 pm
Wayne is gonna be so pissed he missed the math chat.
4:09 pm
I think that June 9 and September 6 should be switched out. and just for the record, april 20 is a friday this year.
6:02 pm
I like pie.
7:37 pm
hi everyone
I’ve been out of the office for a couple days, but
HAPPY PI DAY!
Now I’m going to bed.
9:11 pm
I heard March 14 was Steak and BJ Day. Look it up.
9:28 pm
Can we move it to March 17th?
That will go nicely with the Guinness.
Paging that gal who swore off BJs this year…what’s her name again?
11:12 am
is it? Can I get a belated gift, anney?
wakka wakka
jkz
but I am pissed that I missed the math chat. I was out doing technical stuffs on pi day, which is appropriate.
11:17 am
WCCO’s Pi Day story. I suppose if we do story on made-up days like Valentine’s Day… why not do a story about a made-up Math Day.
11:29 am
My engineer co-workers went to happy hour for Pi Day yesterday. I was still on vacation, so I skipped. And I had better things to do anyway.
When I was in college I was in this co-ed professional chemistry fraternity (shut up) and we (and other chapters) had Pi Day and Mole Day celebrations every year.
11:45 am
Did they drink 3.14 beer?
