…and man Tom… linking Powerline like that… you’re trying to break 300 comments on this thread?

People with so much money quibbling over what’s probably, to them, an inconsequential amount. I hope they’re not looking for sympathy. Money for the frequent flyer miles? Pfffft.

Please tell me you didn’t just do that. I’m going to have to ban myself from mnspeak for the rest of the day, or I won’t get any work done.

Rule of thumb…if a bride, or anyone else planning an event, has already “fired” a planner it’s clearly a sign that you DO NOT want to take on the planning thereafter.

No, Aaron, I just wanted to point out yet again how much smarter the guys at Powerline are than the rest of the “Global Warming is a myth” spinners. They are, you know. Just ask them. It says so right in the blog.

One good thing about the Powerline article is that it points out the danger of reading too much into a micro weather trend. Of course, because the history the world is a pretty long time, and we’ve only been tracking weather for 100+ years, almost everything is a micro trend.

My point is: ignore people who say: It’s cold today, where’s your global warming now? Or, “It’s cold for a couple years in the 1970s, so there must be an ice age coming.”

We’re either warming now, or in the middle of one hell of a temperature coincidence.

Aaron, for me the link I posted starts the CW movie right up. But here, in link form, is the archive page at CW.

Remember when Saddam Hussein was a grave and gathering threat to the United States? Here is our “aluminum tubes” moment that proves the myth of global warming. Nice work, Assrocket!

Too bad she can’t slap a lien on their marriage.

Title should have been:

Sugar Daddy stiffs Wedding Planner after ceremony.

This seems so much like an episode of the Real Housewives of the OC. He marries someone 18 years younger and gets pissed she spent so much. If I was his new wife I would be mortified! She is going to have to plan and cater all her events herself from here forward!

The Powerline jokers are also ignoring the fact that global cooling adn global warming have two different casuses. The concern for global cooling was over particulate pollution, which can block solar energy from reaching the earth’s surface and atmosphere. We’ve taken sigmificant steps to deal with particulate pollution, begining in the 70s. The concern for global warming involves the so-called greenhouse gasses, which trap the heat of solar radiation in the earth’s atmosphere. That we haven’t started to deal with.

Good point, mnlrmkr.

Somebody should tell that nancy-boy Lambert that the reason the numbers for talk radio are down is simple: The internets. Talk radio is so 1990s.

And it always needs to be repeated that as long as the wingers are mocking a theory and we debate it, there is absolutely no discussion of the fact that extracting and consuming of the planet’s finite fossil fuel supply has other consequences. The effects are measurable, unavoidable, and seriously detrimental.

No, assholes yammering on about the same thing over and over and over is out, no matter what format. That includes your little blog, sir.

No, assholes yammering on about the same thing over and over and over is out,

sez the guy who yammers on with the same complaints ev’ry day.

Since global warming was greatly discussed in the Oscar thread, should we talk about the Oscars in this thread?

(IE, I’m not taking the bait this time…)

Did anyone know that former Oscar winner Nicholas Cage wore a bear suit in The Wicker Man. Freakin’ hilarious!!!

Exactly, grote!

because if anything, people love hearing the same thing day after day. it’s why fox news has such great ratings.

(so who doesn’t love me yet?)

I’m pretty sure that people don’t watch Fox…I suspect that those are actually cyborg viewers.

I only wish they were cyborg viewers. Most of Fox’s viewers are my relatives, it seems.

I’m just waiting for the emails about Gore’s power consumption…

That’s surely a sign of the apocolypse.

OMG, average length of visit 3 seconds? Sounds like a lot of people have it on their bookmarks, not too many actually reading.

If you want real amusement, go here and read the readers’ comments on Gore. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “view all comments”.

Whoop-de-doo. The Bottle Gang has only been publishing for a month, and we got 18,000 hits on Sunday alone, based on one link from Fark. It’s not hard to find an audience online. How many millions of people have seen that Numa Numa video?

Because Powerline has a readership doesn’t mean it’s not nonsense.

And doesn’t MnSpeak get something like 70,000 hits per day, he asked, just making up a number?

I’m just waiting for the emails about Gore’s power consumption…

Because, of course, Algore doesnt need to reduce his carbon footprint. It’s up to us normal folk to make lifestyle changes.

The condescending pouts from the likes of Mr. Gore et. al. is absolutely comical.

I hear Gore had a half-full Capri Sun container in his garbage too… (Colbert Report)

Aaron, for me the link I posted starts the CW movie right up. But here, in link form, is the archive page at CW.

While that is true, it is generally better form to link to a location where a reader can further explore the subject that you are linking… i.e. if a user wanted to comment there instead of here. Many people might think it’s a nitpicky thing but I think it’s important. My two cents.

And doesn’t MnSpeak get something like 70,000 hits per day, he asked, just making up a number?

And why not? When O’Reilly or Limbaugh need a stat they just make it up. I get 30 — er — million hits per day… Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Did anyone know that former Oscar winner Nicholas Cage wore a bear suit in The Wicker Man. Freakin’ hilarious!!!

Aahaha, have you seen the ‘best of’ clip on youtube? it’s just him punching women for like three minutes.

Power Line gets a lot of publicity because they were chosen as national blog of the year a few years ago and broke the Dan Blather fake-but-accurate Bush documents story. But as a conservative, I prefer the writing on Little Green Footballs. Power Line is a little too lawyerly for my tastes. And check out LGF’s numbers. Matt would kill for half of these, I’m sure.

Yes, because he totally doesn’t actually buy credits etc to offset his power usage.

Oh wait, yes he does. It’s you that doesn’t.

So I only have to conserve if I am not able to pay for the “credits” to use whatever I like?

Chick-hitting greatness:

I must see this awful movie!!!

no, but you’re still not in any position to criticize. at least he’s doing something, even if it’s not enough.

God, thank you max!

no, but you’re still not in any position to criticize. at least he’s doing something, even if it’s not enough.

Are you serious???? I expected more from you. This sounds like the response from a 5 year old.

Because, of course, Algore doesnt need to

Can somebody please hip me to the reason “Algore” is supposed to be witty/withering/whatever? I tune into Limbaugh now and then to get my blood pressure up, and he rrrrrrreally rrrrrrrrelishes saying it in those faux-plummy tones of his. Presumably it has to do with Gore’s status as henchman to the evil Clinton, like Igor to Dr. Frankenstein, but . . . I dunno. Not even a little funny or insulting.

Yawn. Don’t forget to tell me I don’t know anything because I’m working my first real job still. Or because I’m young.

And the right’s massive Ad hominem attack against Al Gore, which so nicely distracts from the real issue of Global Climate Change, is just super-mature!

Wayne was better when Maz was here.

I’m just waiting for the emails about Gore’s power consumption…

Here you go.

wayne, I would never presume to tell you that you don’t know anything. You seem well informed. That’s why I expected more from you.

You really have no idea whether or not I am in the position to criticize.

and max, I did not attach Algore on a personal level nor do I feel that I am clouding the issue. It just so happens that I don’t agree with you, wayne or Mr. Gore but in this forum, that simply makes me an asshole. There is no tolerance for differing views here on mnspeak evidently.

Well, at least we know when the right wing noise machine gets so cranked up about and hysterical about a subject, it’s because they’re terrified that their losing.

Hey, did you guys notice that Algore is getting fat? LOLOLOL! IF IT’S GETTING SO WARM WHY IS HE PUTTING ON INSULATION FOR THE WINTER!

because, you know, that refutes everything he says, especially the parts backed up by scientists.

I checked out the comments in the Tennesean. Similar to comments I read on some red state newspaper sites when the Right was on yet another “Kick Kerry” rampage. So much ugliness out there. I guess willful ignorance is the new black.

I’ve got the Wicker Man sitting and home but never watched it. Maybe now I will.

I’m not surprised KTLK fired Colton. He was no good. Whatever happened to his co-hort Kelly Guest? When KTLK launched she was supposed to be the next great thing in radio. Best morning show right now is Willie and Jay on KSTP.

There is no tolerance for differing views here on mnspeak evidently.

A thousand violins just starting weeping because two MnSpeakers disagree with you.

I did not attach Algore on a personal level…Clintonian typo.

Just an fyi…There really aren’t any clearly defined parameters for what’s tolerated on MNSpeak (well, at least I never got the memo), so plz see Max’s violins comment.

Ok, point taken, but harping on Al Gore doesn’t refute anything about climatic instability and the science thereof. In truth most people turn out the be hypocrites in at least some ways, and if you’re a public figure you’re more heavily scrutinized. But it’s still pretty irrelevant to the issue he’s plugging, and attacking him personally really is just a distraction from the actual issue. I mean (I didn’t watch it, but) all the hollywood types pimping green energy and the such at the oscars was blatant hypocrisy because they’re some of the biggest consumer whores around and the most wasteful to boot. Sometimes it’s almost painful to have idiots agree with you, because it hurts your case more than it helps.

Hey, I hear ‘em too.

Average Visit Length 0:03

How would they know how long it takes people to *read* a page that they’ve uploaded?

Wicker Man is a seriously disturbing movie. (The old one, that is. I hear there’s a newer version out now but I have not seen it.)

I guess willful ignorance is the new black.

No, I think “the truth” is the new black. As in “I don’t want nonna dat gatdamned truth comin’ intuh mah town and lookin at my daughter funny!”

Actually Max, I think the opposite is true. It’s okay to be a wasteful person, consuming all the gas and plastic packaging and crap you like, just as long as you regularly opine about the degraded state of the world and how someone (govt) needs to do something about it… for our children, you know.

I have high hopes to someday be an utter scoundrel that does the right thing.

It’s so implausible it sounds like it’s straight out of a work of classic fiction!

Or you could read the link, if you like.

God, I recycle and take public transportation, WHAT MORE do you want from me?

wink wink.

Hm. Perhaps I should have clicked that super-long link.

I mean, the other side of this is that it’s a classic straw man argument, pretending the Al Gore is arguing for one thing, when, in fact, he is arguing for another, and then calling him a hypocrite for not living up to the argument he is not making. Gore has always said that our objective should be to individually reduce our carbon fingerprint to zero, which he has done. He’s never said that rich people who own ranches shouldn’t use more power than poor people who don’t. Maybe you think they shouldn’t, and it’s a fair criticism, but it doesn’t make him a hypocrite.

And doesn’t MnSpeak get something like 70,000 hits per day, he asked, just making up a number?

Hey, do y’all share that kind of info? I’m curious.

Where’d you go to school Max, Arthur Murray?

Matt’s got the numbers on mnspeak traffic. He’s in Paris right now, but I’m sure as soon as he wakes up from the jet lag, he’ll check in. Unlike China, France does not block mnspeak from their interwebs. I think he’s over there talking about starting Parisparle.com or something like that.

University of Minnesota, although I was actually once a dance instructor at Arthur Murray.

That’s absolutely true, by the way.

I can’t wait until we have french people posting here

man, what a jet-setter…those MNSpeak banner ads must really be raking in the dough;)

I think he’s over there talking about starting Parisparle.com or something like that.

I can’t tell if you’re kidding or not.

Hey, how did they get Ron Jeremy to appear on Chasing Windmills?

Hedgehog Jr.

1. The Gores office out of that house. Thus it is a business and residence.
2. They have a security detail thus making it creating more energy usage
3. Not only do they buy carbon offsets, but they pay extra to get renewable energy for their house. So while their bill is large, they aren’t using a comparable amount of extra energy.
4. In Gore’s climatic zone, the average is much higher, thanks to hot, humid summers and cold winters. Within that zone, Gore’s usage is three (not 20) times average, and his per-square-foot usage is average.
5. Its hard to diet when you are trying to save the world

Anyone else notice Steve Marsh’s bald spot?

Steve! You’re alive!!!! We all thought you OD’d. :)

It’s not really that tiny. Plenty of space for one person.

But uh, check the context on that one.

No, we all hoped he’d ODed.

Is there not an Andrew Eklund music credit on a recent episode?

stevemarsh Mar 1 2007

ha, ha. Fuckers.

Yeah, Eklund did the music for my tastefully underperformed episode. It’s wicked. Taste it.

I think he’s over there talking about starting Parisparle.com or something like that.

Makes me feel like renting Better off Dead. I can’t get the scene where John Cusack’s mom is introducing the “Fraunch” meal she prepared for the foreign exchange girl out of my mind

just for the record, I did not post as “?”…after reading marsh in this week’s MSP, I came to realize how insensitive I’d been…those bald comments take a psychic toll.

also, since I’m in such a generous mood…that was Marsh’s best acting on ‘mills to date, and he has way less back hair than one would expect.

Hey, Carla:

I want my two dollars!

Yes. Twas me. And Jon Bonham. And bottles of Hopslam, the greatest beer ever brewed.

Seems to me Bells Hopslam is the Loch Ness Monster of beers….my two well-beer-stocked neighborhood liquor stores are always out of it…the kids working there tell me how good it is when I (frequently) buy other Bells beer, but it never seems to be in stock.

Kids shouldn’t be drinking Hopslam. They’ll end up in a tub looking for Maurice.

Like Grote.

I like Dharma beer. My friend Roger Workman hooks me up w/it. Warm and kinda flat, it’s the best.

Hey Grote, let’s see you post a photo of yourself, perhaps wearing your waitress outfit and counting your tips in front of the busboys.

I’m totally unimpressed with stats that don’t include the number of UNIQUE visitors (vs “total visits”), as well as the total percentage of known bots.

And I know Powerline has those numbers because I have those numbers on my rinky-dink blog.

Carla – “But you like raisins…”

You know what goes great with Dharma beer? Mr. Cluck’s chicken, except that it got crushed by an asteroid…

You would think that a self-described playwright, if even a failed one, would respect the intellectual property of other artists and not violate flickr’s terms of service and community guidelines by linking to images in their static cache without links or attribution especially when that image is not marked for public consumption.

Is intellectual theft hypocritical?

Powerline… “in their own words”

I saw Steve Marsh’s stalker outside my building a couple of weeks ago. For a second I thought maybe they were filming and I didn’t know it.

A few days later I saw him again outside my building and stopped to talk to him. He was really nice.

And now this is a Max Sparber callout thread? If you want to discuss Flickr terms of service, feel free to email me.

Otherise — Failed playwright? Fuck off.

Yes, as long as he’s not stalking you. ;-) Have you seen his blog?

As for the “guidelines”… aren’t guidelines just standards by which we determine a course of action? Hell… it’s clear sparber determined his course of action. And by the way.. I wouldn’t consider being a city’s most accomplished playwright a failure by any standards. You want a failed playwright.. start talking to the rest of us.

Thanks Cristina. Somebody on this thread got it into their mind that it would be a good idea to play as dirty as possible with me. This isn’t the first time Not2Sure has launched incredible aggressive personal attacks at me. Not sure what prompted this unhealthy obsessing, as, while I may belittle others ideas, I don’t recall ever having gone after anybody personally on this site. It’s pure trolling.

Maybe he’s flirting, sparber. Careful, he might pull your hair. :-)

Not2Sure has a history here of being Not2Bright and a pompous dick.

Likely an alias for bud jr., maz, or some other smarmy fascist ass.

Don’t let the h8ters get you down msparber! You Rulez!

I know. He’s just dipping my pigtails into the ink well because he doesn’t know how to ask me to the box social. But I’d ride his penny farthing any day!

Whoah. I slipped into steampunk Max for a moment there.

Actually, Not2Sure is the boyfriend of Margaret a.k.a. Sopheava, but I believe that was pointed out elsewhere on MNSpeak a while ago.

I had to get through this thread to understand Max’s comment on the Buca thread about being a failed playwright. I want my five minutes back.

I had a feeling that this thread was going to get up to 300 posts, but with every 8-5 working stiff taking off early or skipping work altogether it fizzled out.

Felt too much like an ambush. When tbartel links in Powerline and has “Global Warming” in the title, mere days after the Oscars, check your back.
.

No dinner rush tonight, grote?

Still waiting for a real photo.

That guy from Powerline is really pleased with himself. I get so tired of self-important creeps carrying on as if they know what the left “thinks.”

The only question I have is: who is the guy on the left hanging on every word as if the speaker has launched into some totally creative sililoquey that’s never been said before.

Acquiring power or re-acquiriing power is at the heart of politics.

If you don’t think the Bush family started planning their return to power they day after they lost it, you’re totally naive.

I don’t know ’bout you all, but I’m just swooning over the idea that Max was a dance instructor.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…

The other guy is Power Line’s Scott Johnson, also a TCF Bank exec.
