I am predicting at least a 400-car pile up on the highway for monday’s commute. Everything but minnesotans’ general inability to drive will be blamed. A few days later an old lady will get an icecicle in the head from the library’s wing and the library will be closed indefinitely, saving them tons of money they don’t have.

The owners of the parking lots downtown will demand the city plows them or they won’t sell for the stadium. Coffee shops will do double business once city-dwellers overcome their fear of the snow and peek their heads outside, only to realize they could use a warm pick-me-up. Bears will roam the suburbs.

There’s a lot of political bloggers in Minnesota that are either being paid for by campaigns, PACs or just-so-happened-to-be in a role on their real job that relates to what they are blogging about. In fact, if you weren’t aware, there are a few local political bloggers in Minnesota that treat their blogging as their full time day job.

And not just in a political sense: What do you think about blogging impartiality and when it comes to money?

On the Current last night I was waiting for Klosterman to tell Mary Lucia flat out: “Shut up you don’t know what you’re talking about!”

But Klosterman was smart enough to work with Mary Lucia’s strange curveball interview process. What is it about her interviews anyway? She talks too much about herself but every now and then she’s able to pull something really unique and insightful out… or, like last night, she can get Klosterman to read the weather forecast.

Leave the house? Hell no, not with the white wall of death approaching.

I really like Mary Lucia’s interview style and sense of humor, but unfortunately we don’t have the same taste in music so I almost never listen to The Current during her hours. The opposite can be said for Mark Wheat; I love the music he plays but I tend to just switch off the radio when he starts talking.

Even odds that CK ends up in the basement of the Turf Club come 2am…any takers?

Driving around Lake of the Isles while buzzed and listening to Mark Wheat is fun!

I know people just love Lucia and she must have some huge stash of cred somewhere but between her interviewing and self-referential tangents I’m not digging it. Maybe she’s just hit the celebresphere where she doesn’t go to any gigs except as an MC or VIP guest?

Jill Riley, on the other hand, has enough quality to make up Lucia and then some.

Anyone else going to see Hairball @ Povlitzki’s on 65 in Spring Lake Park? Didn’t think so.

Amajuba is incredible. Seriously, one of the best things I’ve seen on a dramatic stage (which isn’t saying much, I admit).

Inland Empire: Part of me thinks it’s genius; part of me thinks I just wasted 3 hours of my life.

Lucia’s my bestest Current host because she plays killer rock sets, got a quirky perspective, tells great absurd stories and she has THE most mellifluous voice and flow. Whereas some other hosts’ delivery is sort of stop & start and makes me insides tense up.

Riley has grown on me and I like her playlists but I still find her giggle annoying. And Mark Wheat, I sometimes wonder whether he’s just pulling pronounciations from his ass. Seriously–con-TRI-bution?

I’d be curious to know people’s opinions on the best local news team.

For my money it’s the KARE-11 weekend team of Rick Kupchella, Amy Hockert, Sven Sundgard on weather and Eric Perkins on sports. Their banter is generally pretty irrevent and not too cloying, they all seem to understand what they’re talking about (which can’t be said about many of the big-name weeknight anchors), and they’re all easy on the eyes while not too TV-bland good-looking.

I’d love to hear the opinions of others.

From my experience, the answer is “YES!” This is true not only at the Strib, but the PiPress, the St. Cloud Times, Duluth News-Tribune, and the Mankato Free-Press.

Have any of you read the comments on thos Tribune ahem “blogs”? Those are the folks dragging down the curve.

The “Svencut” looks so bad, but I see those do’s all over in the skyway when I’m walking to work, etc… it just looks so retarded, like a bunch of Ed Grimley’s running around!

I saw Robyne a few months back around Christmastime over in the Qwest building, on the skyway level, with some tables setup where she was hawking some of her jewelry creations and other stuff….man, she looked nothing like how she appears on the air! That makeup artist working for FOX is a miracle worker!!

KARE 11’s whole touchy-feely shtik really grinds my gears. That’s why I tend to watch KSTP if I’m in the mood for TV news. I don’t want a hug, I just want to know what the hell happened. But I did find it a tad tacky for KSTP to have a self-promo of its coverage of the house explosion out west during the 10 o’clock news on the day it happened.

I am predicting at least a 400-car pile up on the highway for monday’s commute. Everything but minnesotans’ general inability to drive will be blamed. A few days later an old lady will get an icecicle in the head from the library’s wing and the library will be closed indefinitely, saving them tons of money they don’t have.

The owners of the parking lots downtown will demand the city plows them or they won’t sell for the stadium. Coffee shops will do double business once city-dwellers overcome their fear of the snow and peek their heads outside, only to realize they could use a warm pick-me-up. Bears will roam the suburbs.

Did anyone else do a doubletake at the picture with the Bundt-cake article this morning? It just happens to be held at chest-level with at least a passing resemblence to breasts.

I blame the look on the old guy’s face for inspiring me to see something dirty in the picture. I don’t think the Bundt was the only thing “rising to any occasion” during that photo shoot.

But Klosterman was smart enough to work with Mary Lucia’s strange curveball interview process. What is it about her interviews anyway? She talks too much about herself but every now and then she’s able to pull something really unique and insightful out… or, like last night, she can get Klosterman to read the weather forecast.

I really like Mary Lucia’s interview style and sense of humor, but unfortunately we don’t have the same taste in music so I almost never listen to The Current during her hours. The opposite can be said for Mark Wheat; I love the music he plays but I tend to just switch off the radio when he starts talking.

I saw that channel 5 promo you’re talking about. My wife and I figured they were hyping some story they had done before, but when we found out it was for that night’s news it was really repulsive. For those of you who missed it, the 5 showed a house exploding “Hollywood” style, calling it “your news.” It was very slick and over-produced. It turns out it was in regards to a story in which a guy died, leaving behind a wife and children. Pretty repulsive way to hype a newscast.

When I worked at Land0Lakes in Arden Hills, they’d serve it in the (otherwise quite excellent) cafeteria and everyone held it up as a paragon of Hotdishy Goodness when it seemed to me to be an exemplar of all that is wrong with American food: Grey, bland and mushy.

I mean, there’s only so much wonderfulness to be asked of hamburger, mushroom soup, processed vegetables and tatertots, but surely someone does it well.

I witnessed the same at General Mills’ tech center in Golden Valley. One day the line in the caf was crazy long. I was expecting something Super Special and it was just hotdish. Blech.

Believe it or not, I had my first bite of tater tot hotdish only a couple of years ago, and it was at the home of a friend who hails from Montana! My mother NEVER made hotdish at home when I was a kid, so I guess I didn’t have the chance to develop an affection for it. (And I didn’t like the one my friend made.)

Having said that, I do believe that it’s possible to make something in a casserole which actually tastes good. (e.g. Moussaka)

And I like my tater tots crispy and plain anyway, not damp with cream soup ooze…

Douglas and the rest of those “weather expert” idiots on the local news circuit are basically redeeming themselves for over hyping this winter storm last Friday evening; it is now suggested, from their own computer models, that we’re going to get about six inches of that white fluffy stuff on the ground, and less likely to see over a foot of snow or greater that they manged to frighten us in the first place. Shit, talk about dishonestly!

News folks are such liars these days, it is no wonder that nobody trust them in the content of reporting real stuff out there!

It’s called snow tires, people. Use them. Also, normal lane rules apply. The left lane is still a passing lane, even when it’s snowing. Just because you want to do 30mph in the left lane because you have crap tires and are afraid to change lanes doesn’t mean you get to stay there.

She ended up doing like 2 360s and from what I could see slammed into a power pole. It was unfortunate but actually was rather funny because it was completely her fault…. Probably was on her cell phone….

My favorite is people who feel the need to drive down the center of a two-lane road. Even ignoring the people behind you who might want to pass, if the people in front of you have separated themselves into two lanes, shouldn’t you do the same? I’m proud to report there is as of now no bike track down the Greenway.

I will never forget my first day of work (the day ranty helped me get home) waiting for the bus at University and Rice. With a foot of snow having fallen over the last day and a half, the intersection was plugged with snow. When the red light changed, the little Mini Cooper spun its wheels…and spun…and spun…and spun. It seemed like such a good idea in July.

It’s my belief that all these bad drivers aren’t from here. Statistically, I’m probably right. I bet less than half the people on this site are from here, right? Think of all the hmong, latino, somali, californians, and other warm-weather immigrants who are driving on our local roads these days! They didn’t exactly grow up in it, now did they?. In fact, I think people from places where they don’t have snow should be required to take their driver’s test during the winter so we know whether or not they’re going to endanger all our lives! Maybe so. I’d generalize more specifically and say that rural types are better winter drivers than urban types, especially the farm kids who start driving when they’re 10.

I spent 45 minutes kicking snow out from around my car, since I don’t have a shovel. Saved me a trip to the gym. The quantity of snow wasn’t so bad. Getting plowed in sure did suck, though.

A storm like this is a great reminder of why I love Minnesota Nice…my neighbor across the street has a herniated disc in his back and a super-powered snow-blower…he offered me a valium and a six pack of Summit to clear his drive with his blower…I told him if he threw in his iPod that I’d do the whole neighborhood. I blew through 2 tanks of gas.

My son and I thoroughly enjoy WCCO’s reports about “looking for love” on the 5 o’clock news. There’s got to be something going on between Jeanette Trompeter and Dennis Douda–such chemistry between them. I know Jeanette keeps insisting they’re “just friends”, but I get the impression Dennis wishes it was much more. Last year I walked past the WCCO studio on the mall and could clearly make out a picture of Jeanette on Dennis’ desk. If they were involved–what’s wrong with that. They work together and Jeanette is “one really cool dude”. She has such natural beauty (not plastered with makeup). She brightens up a room and has so much going for her–the perennial cheerleader or Baywatch babe. WCCO struck it rich when they got her. I do like the Frank and Amelia pairing, although it appeals to a more mature audience.
