Can't be more predictable than yankees.
Enh, at least some good came out of it. Eventually.
If Hardy can find his form from two years ago it will be a fantastic trade. Go-go was at best a defensive center fielder. If he could have learne...
I agree. The Yankees are boringly predictable.
This is why the Twins are the Twins and the Yankees are the Yankees. Let's see, should we go for Hardy or Teixera? Hmmm.
I tink peraps it is te curc of Crist, Marybet414.

I like the guy, but I have to admit he was a bit disappointing.

Sorry, I didn’t realize it was registration. I’m registered with it so I didn’t even notice. I’ll copy-paste. Here I was so glad to get a post categorized as “culture”

Whats a library without books?
Mike Nowatzki, The Forum
Published Wednesday, February 21, 2007
The new downtown Fargo library may open with some empty shelves if the city cant come up with an estimated $1 million for some books, a library official said Tuesday.
Fargo Public Library Board members seemed surprised by the figure, presented by Interim Director Beth Postema.
City Commissioner Linda Coates said she recalled former library director Charles Pace talking about needing $500,000 for the main librarys opening-day collection.
But Postema said the $500,000 was for the collection at the new Dr. James Carlson Library, now under construction in south Fargo. The board Tuesday scaled back that amount to $350,000.
Board Chairman Prakash Mathew asked whether the
$1 million estimate included both the main library and south library collections. Postema said it covered only the main library.
Library officials had hoped to pay for the main librarys collection with about $1.3 million in operational funds set aside from the library sales tax, Postema said.
I think we felt that more of that would be remaining for collections. A lot of its been spent on personnel and additional other technology infrastructure, she said.
The funding may have to come from other revenue sources, such as grants or private fundraising, she said.
It may not all be there, so we may not have things as full as we would like them as a professional staff, she said.
A capital campaign has raised more than $1.4 million including a $1 million gift from Carlson toward a
$3 million goal, fundraising consultant David Baker said Tuesday. The public phase of the campaign is expected to start in April.
The donated money will help to cover the estimated cost of $15.3 million for the main library and north and south branches.
Tuesdays news about the $1 million estimate comes after board members learned last month that unstable soil conditions would require additional foundation work for the main library, adding an unanticipated $400,000 to $500,000 to the project, which is estimated at $9.9 million.
Bids for the main library will be opened next week and should give officials a better idea of how much money will be needed to complete the project, Postema said.
Construction is scheduled to begin in March on the new two-story main library and will take 18 to 24 months to complete.
The new library will incorporate the foundation and support columns of the existing one-story main library at 102 3rd St. N.

Bugmenot, people. Chill. But thanks for copyin’ and pastin’.

With all the time Wayne spends on the Internets, you’d think he’d know about bugmenot already.
10:59 am
Yeah, well Wayne can’t use firefox at work because of super awesome corporate IT rules.
11:00 am
Also I’m not sure how great of an idea it is to copy-paste a news story in its entirety from one news site to another pseudo-news site, even in the comments section. Quoting portions of a story are fair use (unless you’re in Belgium maybe), but quoting the entirety of a copyrighted story is kind of not kosher. Just FYI, as I don’t think the fargo papers are going to come knocking on matt’s door with a subpoena anytime soon.
11:07 am
Bugmenot works in any browser. You just have to *gasp* go to bugmenot.com instead of using the handy dandy little plugin. My corporate IT nazis won’t let me use firefox either, but I’ve survived.
So would you rather this whole thing just didn’t get posted at all?
11:16 am
What could possibly be wrong with it? It’s sourced.
11:19 am
But it’s the same idea as copying a whole CD and then saying “what, I gave credit where it came from!”
You could play a track or a clip of a track for somebody, but if you burn them the entire CD it’s not fair use anymore. Similarly, quoting portions of something is fine, but not quoting the entire thing.
I don’t personally care and I doubt the dinky fargo paper does either, but just an FYI.

Fargo sux
11:27 am
Anyone has pics of that new library they built up there?
11:33 am
Wayne, you complain because it’s linked to a password site (that is easily worked around) and then you complain because someone then posted the entire story?
My god, you’re a piece of work. Do you see a therapist? You should.
11:39 am
I wasn’t complaining, anonymous dipshit, just making aware. I don’t know if you missed the part where I said that it didn’t bother me, but it doesn’t. I just want to be sure people are aware of this kind of thing in case someone starts doing it regularly and MNSpeak gets a strongly-worded letter about it.
12:13 pm
LOL…I forsee some kind of t-shirt.
“I got pasted on MNSpeak.”

I think he’s safe. Intellectual property law is complex and tough to understand, and you’re talking about the people in a town that built a library and forgot the books.
.
1:54 pm
Actually, I was just thinking (a shocker, I know) and really, how much diference is there between a library that is open but has no books and a library that is closed but full of books? In both cases you have very little access to the books, so to the user they’re pretty similar. I guess the midwest just hates reading.
3:42 pm
I know I do. That’s why I prefer videos and links to mp3’s as opposed to transcripts or articles. But that’s also mostly because I hate deaf people.
3:49 pm
Amber is on a roll today.
3:53 pm
Are you people seriously harshing on me for complaining about audio-only stories?
3:53 pm
amber,erica,leaigha, too
All the boys want

3:56 pm
Wayne, it’s not what you say, dude. It’s how you say it. You just make it easy. I don’t disagree with your point.
I don’t know how to take that from bud jr.
3:59 pm
How else should I say it? I’m so filled with impotent rage!
3:59 pm
I like bud better when he’s talking about chicks and guns.
4:01 pm
We may as well just give them our books, since we can’t afford to keep our library open for people to access them. Next issue…
4:01 pm
This is my weapon and this is my gun
My weapon’s for killing
My gun is for fun

We do! Ok the geeky librarian in me will shine through here: MINITEX Library Information Network, part of the U of M, is the largest document delivery system in the nation send/receiving documents for libraries in the Minnesota, North and South Dakota, according to Association of Research Libraries. For FY05 MINITEX received Interlibrary Loan 242,870 requests received from MN, ND, SD, and WI (in-house stats).
There are books being shared and borrowed all over the place. I’m share Fargo’s numbers will increase lots.

Most of the time I don’t highlight my agreement with bud. He’s a good heat shield. But I have to come out strong in support of him on that one. I would also count Ingrid. The girls of MNSpeak are top notch. Ranty, too.
MINITEX?
This has got to go down as my favorite day in MNSpeak history. I’ve had two posts, we’ve got people posting statue, talkin’ about library information networks. I love you guys.
6:30 pm
Aw, look!
I got an honorable mention!
It’s like winning third-runner-up in a pageant or something.
7:08 pm
I thought since we used to be co-workers I should be extra careful to avoid sexual harrasment. You know I’ll always appreciate that time you told me where Wiley Hall was. I’d still be on the bus w/out that.
7:12 pm
Jesus, how many years ago was that????
7:48 pm
“Anyone has pics of that new library they built up there?”
No pictures, because they haven’t even started construction yet. Last time I was up there, they hadn’t even started demolition of the current library.
7:49 pm
“That’s why I prefer videos and links to mp3’s as opposed to transcripts or articles. But that’s also mostly because I hate deaf people.”
So, you’re one of those people. Sadly, I’m all too familiar with the type.
If that was supposed to be funny, forgive me for not laughing. Personal experience has taugt me to take a person (especially a woman) saying that at their word.
9:43 pm
Amber is just a typical lyin’ hearie fool.
9:58 pm
It was February 2, 2004, to be exact. My first day at work. Do you have MySpace? You’re eligible to be in my friends.
10:17 pm
I’m still jealous. Their temporary library is open 7 days a week, and for 4 of those days it’s open from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Some say the shelves are half empty, but I say the shelves are half full.
11:21 pm
I would also count Ingrid. The girls of MNSpeak are top notch. Ranty, too.
ahh shucks….thanks Kevin!
11:45 pm
mnblrkmkr, give me a break. First you accuse me of actually hating deaf people (guess all the time I spend learning sign language is only so I can sign slurs to them), then you break out the “especially a woman” comment.
And seriously? Who could hate deaf people? I know a few who think it’s funny to make fun of them (which I don’t condone nor let slide without an accusing comment), but seriously? Deaf people? And why?!?!
12:19 am
It’s like winning third-runner-up in a pageant or something.
I’m you sure this is a competition you want to win?
I’ll take it at face value and say, “Thanks, guys.” Y’all are sweet (when you wanna be).
The first sign I learned was “penis.”
10:29 am
Well, if I was wrong, the I was wrong. And I apologize, Amber.
But, like I said, personal experience has tended to make me take comments like that at face value. And, yes, unfortunately, in my own experience, women tend to be worse. Maybe it’s simply because the majority of my loss in the higher frequencies, where womens voices tend to be, causes the greatest impect in interactions with women, but that’s been my personal experience. And it does suck.
10:43 am
I’m you sure
Christ. It was late, I was tired.
10:51 am
Amber only knows enough sign language to make veiled threats.
11:01 am
I hope you can see this becasue I’m doing it as hard as I can.
11:04 am
The first sign I learned was “penis.”
which you forgot soon thereafter.
11:09 am
Oh, no. I still remember it. I’m tempted to use it whenever I see folks having a sign language conversation. Except that would be really childish and I usually just smirk to myself instead.
I hope you can see this becasue I’m doing it as hard as I can.
I taught wayne the “penis” sign.
