Can't be more predictable than yankees.
Enh, at least some good came out of it. Eventually.
If Hardy can find his form from two years ago it will be a fantastic trade. Go-go was at best a defensive center fielder. If he could have learne...
I agree. The Yankees are boringly predictable.
This is why the Twins are the Twins and the Yankees are the Yankees. Let's see, should we go for Hardy or Teixera? Hmmm.
I tink peraps it is te curc of Crist, Marybet414.
If I can c(h)ime in...I left the 'H' behind years ago and indeed there is no better way. The church of Crist... Bless you all.
I like the guy, but I have to admit he was a bit disappointing.
Just about every time we went to a game at the dome, you'd hear "fans" (quote marks emphasized) trashing GoGo loudly, which made me want to stand ...

Anyone else going to the G Love show tonight? I’m taking my special lady friend.
1:37 am
Special lady friend?
Look, just stay away from my fucking lady friend.
Hey, I’m not messing with your special lady.
She’s not my special lady–she’s my fucking lady friend. I’m just helping her conceive.
1:40 am
The Beatles said “all you need is love” and then they broke up
2:34 am
If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with.
Shameless plug time!!
Join host Mark Wheat starting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 as he counts down the fifty greatest love songs of all time as suggested by our listeners. At the same time online (thecurrent.org), you can hear Danny Sigelman as he presents the greatest break-up songs of all time. 89.3 The Current.
End shameless plug.
I plan on watching Say Anything before I go into work.
8:56 am
Ok, so what are the 50 greatest love songs, according to mnspeak?

Anyone else going to the G Love show tonight? I’m taking my special lady friend.
As the (un)official MNSpeak oddsmaker, I’m setting Over/Under on the number of college-age roupies G. Love & crew snog in that dirty 1st Ave green room tonight at 7. I suggest you keep your special lady friend close by.
9:46 am
We must add “God Only Knows” to this list of greatest love songs. Or perhaps, “Closer?”
9:50 am
As long as you brought up the Beach Boys, I’m going with the bouncier “Wouldn’t it be Nice”.
9:54 am
our engagement party slideshow was accompanied by “Wouldn’t it Be Nice”…sappy in the best way. Those Beach Boy sounds totally take me back to happy summer days riding around in the back of the family station wagon listening to the Best of the Beach Boys on 8-Track.
9:55 am
Or “Lying in bed, just like Brian Wilson did,” by Bare Naked Ladies.
10:05 am
bjork – all is full of love (plaid remix)
what?
eff today anyway
10:07 am
eff today anyway
amen.

Hallmark holiday, go buy stuff, ignorant consumer robots. Songs for today:
“Bizarre Love Triangle” New Order
“Down to Seeds and Stems” Commander Cody (thanks for the reminder DanD)
“The Buck Starts Here” Robbie Fulks
10:21 am
The CP Blotter linked to this list of the 10 least romantic love song lyrics today.
10:36 am
make me cry: “Buckets of Rain” – Dylan
make me happy: “Another Girl, Another Planet” – I like the Replacement’s version
want romance? anything by Seu Jorge
10:39 am
I hate love songs.
10:41 am
Be Mine by R.E.M.
11:05 am
Rolling Stones: Let’s Spend the Night Together.
I’ll satisfy your every need (every need)
And I now know you will satisfy me
Let’s spend the night together
Now I need you more than ever
Let’s spend the night together now
So romantic.
11:08 am
roy orbinson – “you got it”
brad paisley – “little moments”
…both make me smile
11:14 am
Kevin and T Bar have good taste in music. New Order and the Beach Boys are pure heaven.
I think “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” fits the younger types really well, especially in Minnesota, with the message: “Wouldn’t it be great if we were older so we could get married?”
Brian was 21 and his wife 16 when they married.
11:15 am
Nebraska – Bruce Springsteen
11:19 am
For those who hate love songs, New Order “Every Little Counts” would suffice.
11:24 am
I’ve got it this time – Ball and Chain, Janis Joplin
I just turned it up and had to open a new box of depends after…
11:27 am
J.Geils’ “Love Stinks” was a fave in 6th grade.
Well I love her
and she loves him
and he loves someboy else
you just can’t win
and so it goes
’til the day you die
this game they call love
it’s gonna make you cry
I’ve been through diamonds
I’ve been through minks
I’ve been through it allllllllllllll…..
Love Stinks (love stinks), yeah yeah
Love Stinks (love stinks), yeah yeah

Here’s a Valentines Day song for Sue Jeffers.
Shout out to Matt — a few more links to minority media, please.
11:28 am
I set up something last night allowing you to browse the simon delivers receipts of random Minneapolitans.
People order a lot of crap.
11:29 am
Big Bottom – Spinal Tap
11:32 am
I wish everyone could hijack threads with their own shameless self-promotion as much as the ALA guy does.
11:34 am
I check the Spokesman every day. You’re right, though. Could use a few more links in that direction.
11:35 am
Back to music: If you haven’t already be sure to check out the Peter Scholtes 2006 local mix tape.
11:37 am
Wolf Parade– “This Heart’s on Fire”
Although it’s rather sweet, I don’t think it’s one of the greatest love songs of all time. A few weeks ago, I went through a phase where I thought it would make an interesting first dance song at a wedding. Then I realized the tempo change at the end could be tricky to dance to.
11:45 am
The original…wow that takes me back.
11:49 am
MPR’s midday is having a discussion about the best love songs of all time at 11:00.
11:49 am
Yeah, Little Moments, totally. Brad Paisley…so dreamy…
“She” by Elvis Costello (??) from the movie Notting Hill
Feels Like Home – Chantal Kreviazuk
11:59 am
I was playing “Wouldn’t it Be Nice” for my high school girl friend…but I was thinking “Let’s Spend the Night Together”.
I never understood the Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”. I thought that displayed a terrible lack of ambition.
12:02 pm
I wish everyone could hijack threads with their own shameless self-promotion as much as the ALA guy does
Yeah, what a jerk that guy is!
12:10 pm
The essential difference in perception between the Beatles and Stones is boiled down so clearly in those 2 songs and their sentiments. You still have to take into the account that the world they lived in was a bit more innocent in ‘63 when McCartney wrote the former than in ‘66 when Jagger wrote the latter, but it does tell a lot about the “we’re the band your mother warned you about” taboo image the Stones tried to cultivate.
12:50 pm
eff today anyway
I’ll drink to that.
1:01 pm
Saddest: You’re a Big Girl Now (Dylan)
Sweetest: Into Your Arms (Lemonheads)
1:01 pm
Yeah, in ‘63 the Stones were covering Slim Harpo and Willie Dixon, although King Bee and I just Wanna Make Love to You were a little more poignant than the Beatles cover of Meredith Wilson’s “Til There Was You” from The Music Man.
In ‘69 though, the Beatles did Abbey Road, and the Stones did Let it Bleed. That sums it up right there to my mind.
1:32 pm
Big Star – Thirteen
“Would you be an outlaw for my love?”
2:23 pm
I still strongly associate Valentine’s Day with The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group’s Oh Brother Where Art Thou? “Be My Valentine” and “Yes I Do” in particular.
3:08 pm
Whatever happened to The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group???…I saw them play a dynamite show in a tiny coffehouse in Detroit like 10 years ago and never heard from them again…I know they were on Minty Fresh out of Chicago, but it seems to me that they were from MSP? I loved that gentle-pop-samba sound they had.
3:15 pm
In ‘69 though, the Beatles did Abbey Road, and the Stones did Let it Bleed. That sums it up right there to my mind.
The Beatles walked across Abbey Road and never looked back…the Stones (with apologies to Lester Bangs) “Let it Bleed” across 4 decades.
3:37 pm
i need some help peoples. im going to be in town saturday and need a reservation for dinner. zelo is booked. i need another nice place, recommendation please. NO SUBURBS
thanks
3:39 pm
Try posting that here.
3:39 pm
I never understood the Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”. I thought that displayed a terrible lack of ambition.
Is this a joke?
The Beatles basically created rock music as we know it today.
3:44 pm
No, not a joke, you just misunderstood what sort of ambition Tom was referencing…he means that while the Beatles aimed for her hand, the Stones were aimnig for a warm spot a bit further South.
4:25 pm
I’m aiming for a warm spot a further south myself…Florida.
4:29 pm
Either way, you oughta wear protection.
4:38 pm
Play Me – Neil Diamond
7:40 pm
Just Like Heaven by the Cure
9:54 am
The Stone may have made “Let it Bleed,” but they also ripped off “Sgt. Pepper” with “Their Satanic Majesties Request.”
Back then the competition had excellent results all around. Look at the tension between the Beatles and Beach Boys.
I wish we had that sort of tension today.
12:44 pm
Post VD followup: Got everything I needed (wine & deserts from Surdyks, card from Bibliot) in Wayne’s World, my new term for the corner of Hennepin and University.
12:55 pm
I keep a watchful eye out over my kingdom.
12:55 pm
maybe more of a dutchy, really.
1:22 pm
Post VD followup: I stopped at the Midway Borders and bought two books; one about skyscrapers and one by that girl from the Bachelorette. Turns out there is a skyscraper in Germany that is an almost perfect replica of the halo building. They both ought to be torn down, I say. My Malt-o-Meal blew up in the microwave but I salvaged enough to make it a meal. Anyway…I watched LOST, read some more and then went to bed.
1:31 pm
I went to work, dined at Subway (no VD reservation needed), and came home to a sleeping wife. But hopefully I’ll help a mom with her dying wish: get a kidney for her son.
1:37 pm
I made some annie’s mac&cheese and did my laundry last night.
EXCITEMENT ABOUNDS!
1:55 pm
I think I’ve got you all beat. I went to a movie with friends (the fun part) then went to a home where I am watching FOUR cats for the week. That’s right…single girl alone with four cats…on Valentines day. Nice. I don’t even like cats.
2:16 pm
Ingrid: I’m so sorry for you. You deserve better. At least you’re not a 40-year-old single woman with 4 cats on Valentine’s Day. So there’s that.
2:17 pm
I took my girl to the heights last night to see Flesh and the Devil with live organ accompaniment. It was great. Afterwards we watched a trashy French action film at home, and I gave her a present: A book of paintings by Ellsworth Kelly. Because I bounce between high and lowbrow culture like a pinball bounces between flippers.
2:21 pm
Uh, hello, have we heard from Alexis’ poop chute?
2:30 pm
I am someday going to be the male equivalent of a 40 year old cat lady, whatever that is.
2:31 pm
A gun show enthusiast.
2:33 pm
The Minnesota Weapons Collector show is this weekend at the Convention Center…..
2:34 pm
Now’s the chance to get started, Wayne.
Shit, the convention center. That’s like, two blocks from me. Maybe I’ll go.
2:38 pm
Jason, I didn’t mean it to sound so pathetic. I actually kind of laughed at the situation. Now if it happens next year, that would be bad. I’m only there for a week. I really have no future plans to become a cat lady, although I’m not sure that is something you plan.
2:40 pm
I’ll hang on to one of the cats. I like cats.
2:59 pm
I don’t know, I’ve got a couple friends who are planning on being cat ladies.
Hey Max, see you there? I heard they don’t do background checks at gun shows! I’m going home packing heat!
3:09 pm
One time, I saw an old woman back in my home town standing on her front porch, screaming for her cats. By the time they ran up to the door, she must have forgot she called for them because she hollered, “Get out of here you damn cats” and started pushing them away with a broom.
3:23 pm
That’s hilarious.
For the record, these cats aren’t that bad. They are actually kind of growing on me.
3:41 pm
Fortunately I hate cats, so I can never be a cat lady.
3:47 pm
For the record, these cats aren’t that bad. They are actually kind of growing on me.
You might want to have that examined by a gynocologist.
4:41 pm
Whoops
4:46 pm
that disease is the kind with the kind of outward symptoms you think would warn someone before they could catch it … but no!
4:47 pm
In retrospect, my VD wasn’t so bad!
4:56 pm
My V-Day sort of bit… Well, it always does. I’ve never had a Valentine! I went to class and then headed home to watch American Idol. I am officially pathetic!
4:57 pm
eff yesterday
5:48 pm
that disease is the kind with the kind of outward symptoms you think would warn someone before they could catch it … but no!
The thing is, Wayne, most people look on their p****** for that sort of disease and fail to realize that their p****** are the disease in and of themselves.
5:51 pm
“I took my girl to the heights last night . . .“
- – -
She says she was faking it. Wanted to get back to the TV or somethin’ . .
.
5:57 pm
you’re starting to sound like simpleton, kevin!
7:03 pm
There’s a lot of love in MNSpeak, Wayne. And it’s part of why we have such diseases.
