Welcome to The North

Keep the north cold

Like the good Minnesnowtans that they are, the Daytons and Askov Fanlayson will be welcoming all the visiting football fans with an outdoor winter party that also features the debut of their locally made, locally sourced beer collab with Fair State Brewing. But really you should go to it, too, since there’s going to be a wonderful mix and mingle of food and folks that includes the new “Keep the North Cold” golden ale, chili from The Bachelor Farmer(!), cocktails from Marvel Bar(!), new editions of the North hats, bonfires, and more. 5 PM. The Great Pizza Snowdown Taste-Off Competition

There’s only one way to settle beef (sausage?) between pizza brands: A taste-off. After Heggies and Papa John’s had some social media back and forth, our local bar pizza—we literally just had some at Grumpy’s NE on Friday—is going in hard with a taste off at the Uptown VFW on Tuesday night. There’s going to be complimentary Heggies for fans, celebrity judges including Sweet Martha of Sweet Martha’s cookies(!), and a vibe that will be as close to participating in the Super Bowl as MN will get this year. Pro Tip: This will be packed, get their early, eat before hand. Tuesday, 6 PM. Free.Art Humes

Deadspin’s Very Large Adult Game Party & Live Podcast

Just to show that we will, in fact, recommend Superb Owl-related events if they’re the right fit for our readership, everyone’s favorite snarky sports site Deadspin will be taking over Amsterdam on Wednesday for a live podcast recording and party. Expect them to talk about big game, visiting St. Easy, why your favorite team The Vikings suck, hopefully Rousey signing to WWE, and much more. And in true ridiculous Deadspin fashion, every ticket comes with an unprecedented three free drinks. Wednesday, 8 PM. $10.Ron Jones

Sound Verite Records Presents: Greg Grease + Muja Messiah + Lady Midnight

Greg Grease

A set at Icehouse from any of the performers at Thursday’s Sound Verite Records showcase warrants a mention, but all together its a block party’s worth of entertainment and a can’t miss evening of live music. Greg Grease is mostly known for his work with breakout group Zuluzuluu, but his solo work as an MC is just as strong; Muja Messiah continues to solidify his place at a top hip-hop talent with his fiery delivery and even national writing credits; and Secrets fav Lady Midnight has fronted afro-cuban band Malamanya, broke ground with the avant-garde duo VANDAAM, and helped usher in MPLS + STPL’s new era of electro-soul. For the icing on the cake, the prolific DJ Keezy and Zuluzuluu cohort DJ Just Nine spin in-between sets. Thursday, Thursday, 10 PM. $10 advance, $12 door.Paul Cajun

The 4onthefloor + The Rockford Mules

Big names in small venues—thanks, Super week! No, we don’t mean J-Lo and Imagine Dragons at The Armory or whatever, we mean shows like The 4onthefloor playing a giant party with the equally stomp-y and rockin’ band The Rockford Mules in Uptown, which you’ll still be able to get to with the normal amount of hassle. Thursday, 9:30 PM. $15 advance, $18 door.Hank Stacks

Super-Mega Tabletop Football Throwdown: A Flickball Event

If you’re reading this right away that means you have two days to practice up your triangular paper football flicking skills for the Thursday night tourney from Bauhaus Brewing and The Current. And you’ll need it—with a year’s worth of free beer on the line there’s no doubt that competition will be fierce. Plus DJ/Heiruspec/Trivia Maestro Sean McPherson will host the festivities, making the vibe even more competitive and even more enjoyable. We’d recommend getting there right when they open to ensure you can compete. Thursday, 6-9 PM. Free.Androux Devereaux
