DJ Danny Boy

Word on the street is that DJ-about-town Danny Sigelman is joining The Current. Danny, who will be filling in part-time, was once a Radio K music director and is known for stints with Mike Brady and Jim Ruiz. His first shift is the Sunday overnight — sucker!

District del Soul

Technically, Cinco de Mayo passed quietly (for me, anyway) into Seis de Mayo early this morning. But the holiday, named for the date in 1862 when the Mexican army routed the French, officially kicks off Friday night on St. Paul’s West Side (a.k.a. District del Sol) and runs all day today. The festivities open with a lowrider and hydraulic showdown. Even if the art of altered suspension doesn’t excite you, there will be plenty of food, music, dance, and corporate sponsorship. According to the District del Sol website, the St. Paul fiesta is one of the 10 largest 5/5 celebrations in the U.S. Here’s a chance to eschew Minneapolis in favor of its smaller, shyer twin. You also just might run into mayor Randy Kelly; make sure you show him your love.

Sin City Meets The Walker

Even though I have read all 207 issues of Hellblazer, I couldn’t bring myself to see the Keanu version. Bill and Ted had already gone to hell, as far as I was concerned. So what the Hell does this have to do with the talk of the Twin Cities? The newest issue gave a nice shout out to a local art museum, though I doubt the installation piece they’re discussing in the comic would get a grant. (Note: tomorrow is Free Comic Book Day.)

Foodie Fight!

Dara’s opinions have the weight of encyclicals, as far as we are concerned. Since she loves the Warehouse District’s 112 Eatery, so will we. That said, the sneaky Pi Press was able to get Ruth Reichl to weigh in on the 112. Ruth Reichl! As in, former restaurant reviewer for the New York Times and current editor of Gourmet magazine. Do you remember when Dara took her to school for wasting the “Dining in Minneapolis” issue of Gourmet on trips to Big Bowl and Aquavit? It was like overhearing your favorite cool babysitter criticizing your mom! Debate your favorite local food writers in the comments.

MN Mix

The kids over at The Current are debating what a Minnesota mix tape should sound like. No unusual supsects so far though.
