The Squeaky Clean Cities we are not. Tonight’s event proves it with a little taste of fiction from authors included in the latest expanded anthology of Twin Cities Noir. Julie Schaper, Steve Horwitz, John Jodzio, and Peter Schilling, Jr. will all read excerpts from their murderous short stories, set in different locations around Minneapolis and St. Paul. It’s not quite Sin City, in a good way—these stories have a definite Midwestern absurdity about them, exploiting that delicate Minnesota balance between gosh darn friendly and downright passive aggressive, to a most extreme degree. You’ll see old landmarks in a completely new light after this evening, from the High Bridge to the Minneapolis Warehouse District and even a surreal take on the skyways. A few are humorous, some draw inspiration from our gangster-laden past, and one is even illustrated. Drop by for a few good yarns. 7 p.m. Free. —EK
