One-up the tradition of making your amour a mixtape by taking him or her to this Valentine’s Day event at the Cedar. The ever-endearing Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles plus Big Trouble breathe new life into classic love songs, paying tribute to the mixtape, or “the audio love letter.” The event is even organized like a mixtape: “Side A” will be a performance from instrumental virtuosos Big Trouble with special guests deVon Gray, David Campbell, Matt Latterell, Brian Just, and a few more fun surprise guests. Lucy Michelle and the Velvet Lapelles will take over “Side B” to complete two sets of music any mixtape artist would envy.
Another way to sweeten this Valentine’s Day deal? A massive mixtape swap. The event hosts ask that each audience member create his/her ideal Valentine’s Day mix and bring it to trade with another audience member. Choose either old-school cassette or user-friendly CD and drop your mix off at the table where you’ll later pick up your anonymous mix. Nothing like spreading a little love via handpicked tunes! 7:30 p.m. (doors at 7 p.m.) $14 in advance, $16 day of show. —RO
