Ever wish going to the theater was a little more like speed dating? Wish granted. The five-day event known as Tenfest forgoes the typical night of dramatics for a collection of punchy ten-minute plays instead. Like a well-curated anthology or compilation of your favorite short stories, Tenfest seeks to mix things up while showing the potential of a different kind of format. Not having seen any of this season’s shorts, it’s hard to say what precisely a play on “polyconsensual group marriages performed nightly” might mean for the audience. You may want to let your parents know you’re finally, maybe, getting married (super fast speed dating). There will also be plays dealing with the emotional fallout of Katrina, the depths of feline-man dependency, the Mayan calendar craze, and more.

The fest starts tonight and includes Friday/Saturday night after parties at Nomad. Bedlam Theatre’s series is in its 11th year, so wish it happy birthday and buy it a Twist-a-Braid or something.7:30 p.m. $15. –LB
