Gospel and jazz singer Gwen Matthews is a testament to the amount of local talent here in Minneapolis. She’s been around for years, but lately she’s had some obstacles to overcome. After an arduous wait, the vocalist underwent surgery this week that will allow her to walk again and make a living as one of the Twin Cities’ great singers and song stylists.

Join Mpls.St.Paul Magazine this Sunday for a tremendous musical revue to benefit Matthews’ recovery and celebrate local legends. Performances from The Sounds of Blackness, Debbie Duncan, Mary Jane Alm, Boyd Lee, Patty Peterson, Bruce Henry, Mick Sterling, and other stellar friends and musicians will fill the evening with song out of friendship and support for Matthews. 7:30 p.m. $45. —EK
