Minnesota is home to the only Somali museum on the continent and this year they’ve partnered with the Minnesota History Center to develop an exhibit spotlighting the state’s 57,000-strong Somali community. Somalis + Minnesota explores life in Somalia, the immigration experience, and how elements of both have shaped Northern and national life, telling past and present stories through photographs, artifacts, and interactive photos and video. Come to the opening reception this Saturday for weaving and dance demonstrations, sambusa, and a meet ‘n’ greet with the authors of the much-anticipated Come Sit Down, a cookbook curated by Somali high school students. Saturday, June 23rd, 10 AM-5 PM. —Isabelle Wattenberg
