For fans of experimental performance, there’s just not that many chances to see real high-caliber shows in Minneapolis & St. Paul; it’s a small artistic community, the work can be an acquired taste, and it takes a ton of time an effort to get pieces that will blow your hair back. So there’s not a ton of quantity, and in that even less quality. And not just the Twin Cities, but other mid-sized cities, too.

That’s why the SCUBA Touring Network for Dance—an organization that connects four cities’ curators with its showcase this weekend—is such an exciting  annual show. This year performers from Philadelphia (Nichole Canuso, who does intimate gestural movement), San Francisco (Jose Navarrette and Debby Kajiyama who have a piece on climate change), Seattle (Elia Mrak debuts a new piece), and here in Minneapolis (Supergroup doing a reworking of an early popular piece of layered movement, visuals, and text) take the stage at the Ritz Theater in Northeast Minneapolis before heading out to the rest of the country. Fri. & Sat. 8pm. $18-20. —Taylor Carik
