On the tail end of the two-week Twin Cities Film Festival come some highlights: the Meryl Streep/Julia Roberts/Ewan McGregor-fronted August: Osage County and the South African documentary Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom both screen this weekend, but we’re holding out for the local boy made good. Pollywogs follows post-breakup Dylan, who we meet with only a broken heart and a cleaned out apartment to his name. Not knowing what to do next, Dylan heads home to a family reunion in Minnesota where he encounters a childhood crush and finds renewed possibilities in life. The film’s director, writer, and lead actor is Karl Jacob, Minnesota native who brought the entire cast and crew to his own family reunion to understand our state and shoot in the most authentic way possible. The result is a story slightly familiar to us all—but much better told. 1 p.m. $10. —EK
