The first few bluesy piano notes and lines belted out by Gabriel Rodreick as his new musical project FREAQUE in live performance of “Bag Lady” will certainly wow listeners on its own. But even more impressive, Roderick is singing while playing the piano with a pencil strapped to his hand—a spinal cord injury left him partially paralyzed, but he’s now thankfully revisiting the instrument and set to release what will likely be a big album with Decompose at the Cedar on Saturday. The album’s release show is also a family affair with his cousin Lena Elizabeth, brother Charles, and other cousin Danny Akah doing opening duties. Saturday, July 20th, 8 PM. $12 advance, $15 door.Paul Cajun
