New York City may be the host of the ever-popular Saturday Night Live, but Twin Cities residents have been enjoying our own SNL for more than three years in the form of Sample Night Live, a monthly showcase of live performance art. Sample Night Live returns tonight to Downtown St. Paul’s History Theatre with its tongue-in-cheek host Lounge-asaurus Rex. The “G-rated” Act I will be highlighted by Jazz singers Jason Richards and Maud Hixson teaming up for a tribute performance to ’60s duo Steve & Eydie, while the “Unrated” Act II will see performance troupe Theatre Unbound presenting “Anna Bella Eema,” a musical of sorts about the bond between an imaginative 10-year-old girl and her hermetic trailer park mother. Other performances include live painting from artist William Hessian, dance from ERINtainment, comedy from Bearded Men Improv and music from Heatherlyn, Union Shakedown, Festa Italiana MN and house band The Smarts. Act I begins at 7 p.m., Act II at 8:15 p.m. Cost is $20 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and free for children under 12. 30 E. 10th St., St. Paul, 651-292-4323. For tickets and information, visit Sample Night Live’s website.
