Ah, the timeless story of socially unacceptable love, like that between a Montague and a Capulet, or probably more so that of a cop and high school student. In Kathryn Walat‘s new play that’s staged tonight and tomorrow at the Playwright Center, rookie narcotics officer Naomi Ramirez goes undercover at a Florida high school where she encounters Honors English student named Romeo. Sparks (of a certain kind, check out this interview with Walat) fly, and Romeo and Ramirez find themselves in a multi-layered Shakespearean performance. Monday, Tuesday 7-9:30 PM. Free, registration suggested. —Curt Stanski
