Very few films sit in that narrow sliver of the Venn Diagram overlap between heavily-stylized anime and critically acclaimed cinema, but Perfect Blue definitely fits. The psychological horror film from Japanese director Satoshi Kon—referred to as the Kubrick of anime—is not only flush with early anime tropes and visual theatrics, Blue is on lists like Time’s Top 5 anime list and EW’s best movies never seen 1991-2011. The rarely shown picture has a brand new digital transfer that’s being screened in limited showings throughout the country, including a few local theaters, a great turn for any film fans. Thursday, September 6th (subtitled), Monday, September 10th (dubbed). $13.42.Curt Stanski
