If the upcoming election has you drawing straws between Obama and Romney, perhaps it’s time to consider a third candidate: Paul Bunyan. At least, that’s what playwright Jonathan Wemette had in mind when working on this 2008 Fringe Festival show.
Folklore meets satire in this humorous take on the current political landscape, with Bunyan’s platform including ideas such as filling the Grand Canyon with soup to feed the poor and sending all sick people to Canada, as well as a campaign slogan of “Lower Taxes, Bigger Axes.” Watch the lovable lumberjack revamp the elections and attempt to solve our nation’s issues in this lowbrow, yet witty, production. Besides, in the midst of the current political situation, couldn’t we use a few laughs and some big(-hearted) ideas? 7 p.m. (doors at 6 p.m.) $7. —RO
