Of all the art happening this week (maybe this month?), we’ve been most excited to see the new exhibition from photographer Steve Ozone. His pictures work both immediately and conceptually— the figurative portraits set against landscapes instantly catch your eye with their lush color and contrasting composition, drawing viewers in for closer looks. Then there’s an even greater level of examination required, thanks to Ozone’s use of immigrants (he’s himself is Japanese-Chinese American) against urban and rural geographies which raises the connection of people to their places. Great stuff, can’t wait to see it all up close, and be sure to read up with MPLSART.com’s interview with OzoneSaturday, 6 PM. Free. —Tracy Oxford
