The end of the Cindy Sherman exhibit at the Walker Art Center is drawing near, so celebrate your Valentine’s Day as your alter-ego during the special retrospective I Heart Cindy. This particular Target Free Thursday Night celebrates the artist’s work including her major series and recent work of larger-than-life murals. Major themes in Sherman’s media-inspired photography include identity and representation; Sherman captures herself in a wide range of guises and personas, creating a multi-dimensional personality on film, hence the opportunity to dress up as your alter-ego for this I Heart Cindy event.
Take part in activities throughout the art center including a round of love-fueled verse at Social/Brief: The Love Version, from 7 to 8 p.m. The only rule at this reading is that each poem must be Hallmark-sized and read in 20 seconds or less. Once you’ve shared your original work of poetry, write a love letter to your favorite “Cindy,” as depicted in her photography, to send to the artist. Don’t forget to stop by Gather by D’Amico where executive chef Josh Brown pays tribute to Valentine’s Day with a special prix fixe menu and a signature cocktail, the Love Potion. 5 p.m. Free. —RO
