When we first saw the Ghetto Boys were playing First Ave, we were on the fence for recommending it. It’s a risky pitch, right? What if they’re just a nostalgic act still coasting off of “Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta” that can’t deliver a solid show? And would their tracks be a little flat now that we’re not only totally desensitized to—and often celebrate—profanity and misogyny in rap music? But then the chess masters at First Ave added some of the best local hip hop and rap DJs in MPLS + STPL as openers—DJ Espada, King Otto, Mike 2600 aka Extra Large Mike, Dudley D, Petey Wheatstraw, DJ Verb, and Booka B—so we’d be remiss not to hype the show and you’d be remiss not to go. 8 PM. $25—Paul Cajun
