Friday: Brian Laidlaw & The Family Trade Debut EP at Icehouse
With the frigid temperatures it’s only fitting to head over to Icehouse for speciality cocktails and local jams. Tonight, folk band Brian Laidlaw & The Family Trade debut their EP album, Whiskey With Goliath.
The six-piece orchestra band promises to melt the soul with music that has the “warmth and heart of classic folk records.” Band leader and song-writer Brian Laidlaw, moved to Minneapolis in 2008 to earn his MFA in poetry at the U of M, and has since received numerous awards for his poetry, and most recently his lyrics have appeared in American Songwriter Magazine. You can catch Laidlaw teaching songwriting at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, and/or poetics at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis.
Brian Laidlaw & the Family Trade will share the stage with other Twin Cities music sensations: Bomba De Luz and Chastity Brown. Chastity Brown, most recently seen at The Current’s 8th birthday bash at First Ave, is a soulful guitarist. If you haven’t had a chance to hear her live yet, make sure you do so tonight. Check out Facebook for more info. 11 p.m. $6.
