We’ll give you the scoop on this show, but first you have to read what First Ave has for the background on Electric Six:

The American male needs to feel like a wild horse from time to time. Electric Six is a band from Detroit comprised of six American males. The American male, upon birth, is issued three Wild Horse Cards™ from the United States Department of Agriculture and he can play this card at any point in his life when he needs to feel like a wild horse for a year. 2013 is the year that all six members of Electric Six are electing to play one of their cards at the same time.

Wow. And actually, that’s pretty much the best description of Dick Valentine and Co. that we’ve seen. The creative pop rockers hit it big in 2003 (has it really been that long?) with songs like Dance Commander (who gives out the order for fun and you must obey), Danger! High Voltage (When we touch! when we kiss!), and Gay Bar (Do you have any money? I want to spend all your money). Electric Six have continued on through several more albums, each growing a little more in musical complexity and lyrical absurdity, but their live shows steadily continue to be sweat-soaked dance parties. And like many bands have venues where the group excels, E6 thrives in the Mainroom so much they recorded a live record there in 2012 and featured First Ave. icon Conrad on the cover. Be sure to get there early for the pure energy of Haley Bonar in one of Mpls’s best bands, Gramma’s Boyfriend. 7pm. $15 at the door. —Stan Kurtski
