Our write-up will not do any just to the past 50 years of Jerry Williams, Jr. challenging the conventions of commercial R&B as Swamp Dogg—but at the very least know this quintessential outsider figure in American music not only has an incredible back catalog of radical music (he was actually on Richard Nixon’s infamous enemies list!), but he’s still innovating today. Working with Ryan Olson and Justin Vernon, Swamp Dogg’s released an electro-soul album leans heavily on auto-tune, but still features his ultra-smooth vibes and often hilarious lyrics (like “Sex with Your Ex“). Mmyykk from Astralblak fka Zuluzuluu and Har Mar (as a DJ) open up the show with sets that will likely pay tribute to Williams as much as get the Who’s Who of the local music scene moving. Thursday, November 15th, 8 PM. $10 advance, $15 door.Hank Stacks
