We can pretty much just give a sweeping recommendation to never miss the Books and Bars series because it’s a great event that combines drinking beers and reading books (two of our favorite things). Tonight Life After Life by Kate Atkinson will be discussed at Amsterdam, and it explores one of those deep life questions that has been on all our minds at one point or another: What if we really did get second chances? The book tells the tale of Ursula Todd, who eventually realizes she is living her life over and over again, and tries to change the outcome of the world for better. It’s a tale as old as time (at least in our own heads, because we’ve all wondered “what if?”)  and Atkinson brilliantly puts it to paper. The novel won England’s prestigious Costa Book Award in 2013 and was listed as one of the ten best of 2013 by the Editors of the New York Times. 5:30 p.m. Free. —EJ
