Emma Donoghue’s Room will be the topic of discussion at tonight’s lively event Books & Bars at Aster Café. Arrive by 6 p.m. for socializing, dinner, and drink specials, then stay for the discussion (7 to 8:30 p.m.) of this novel about 5-year-old Jack and his Ma, who lead a normal life, other than the fact that they’re trapped in an 11-by-11 foot room against Ma’s will. Jack doesn’t mind living in Room because he was born in, and has lived there his whole life, but he’s also unaware that his mother is kidnapped and being held against her will. Literary folk have been enjoying this monthly book club, hosted by Jeff Kamin, for years, and it has continued to expand. So to ensure a seat, make your reservation asap, although the club won’t deny you the chance to participate if you’re standing by the bar or waiting for a seat. 125 SE Main St., Mpls., 612-379-3138, aster-cafe.com.
