There’s been a bit of collaboration between some of MPLS’s best small galleries and we couldn’t be happier—it makes seeing their shows that much easier and the art is superb. Unless you’re, oh, camping in WI for a music fest or something, there’s no reason not to spend your Saturday night checking out these show openings.
The smashing Burnet Gallery at the Chambers kicks off a red hot new show of work from Michael Gaughan (who you may know as Ice Rod!); Almost three years ago his illustrated work provided one of the best shows of the year, and now Burnet shows off his more “improvisational” pieces in Fluorescent Glaucoma in a Christmas Terrarium. Instinct Gallery does their own take on a “featured artists” show with New Works by So-and-so—not the standard here’s a bunch of artists producing work on a certain theme, but rather a hard focus on Instinct’s seven core featured artists, including some of the biggest names in local art like Jantje Visscher and Judy Onofrio. Then there’s the Summer Salons. The Douglas Flanders & Associates Gallery in Uptown crams in over 400 brilliant pieces of art, much of it new work and recent acquisitions, for their Summer Salon. The artists of the Circa Gallery also have a group exhibition opening on Saturday; This one features brand spankin’ new work from the galleries’ featured artists and a surprise or two! The Veronique Wantz Gallery hosts its salon that includes July’s featured artist Gaby Silva Bavio.
