The hardworking folks at the Minnesota Music Coalition start their weekend-long summit of local and national music, a great event that includes panels, mentoring sessions, keynote from David Lowery (of Cracker and Camper Van Beethover), a reception with reps from The Grammys, big live show from Toki Wright and others this weekend (see more on that tomorrow), even a screening of a doc on The Big Wu at the MSPIFF. If you are a working or aspiring musician, or even a local music fan, it’s really a can’t miss weekend. At tonight’s kickoff party, St. Small Mayor Chris Coleman receives the MN Music Coalition’s 2016 Music Champion Award, and you get beer, food, and a chance to meet the Summit’s VIPs. 6-8 PM. $15-40. —Charles Moser
