More Weekend Happenings: Summer Can’t Be Tamed
Parties: Speaking of arts, the Weisman Art Museum throws their annual WAM-o-rama bash with music, posters, and free pizza. It’s the first post-concert Club 2030 after party of St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s season at the Ordway, featuring violinist and SPCO Artistic Partner Patricia Kopatchinskaja. Lady Heat‘s vinyl soul and funk dance night moves to the VFW in Uptown.
Letters: Award-winning author Rae Meadows discusses her book I Will Send Rain with local author Peter Geye at Magers & Quinn.
Stage: Theater in the Round opens their run of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Theatre Unbound does the timely (“grand and fearful dumbing of America”!) show The Taming by Lauren Gunderson at SteppingStone Theater.
Twincy, Filmtown™: Oh dang hello, the midnight movie at The Uptown Theater is the animated cult classic Fantastic Planet. To celebrate the genius of Gene Wilder, the Riverview will be showing Willy Wonka and Blazing Saddles for cheap.
Mix + Match: Ever wanted to mash-up a Comicon and a concert? The Bedlam Lowertown hosts Moving Bodies, the first ever ConcertCon.
Food + Clothing: It’s that launch party for lady’s Red Wing Heritage boots at Hazel & Rose. Angry Catfish hosts a barista throwdown, with coffee and the Wyn65 fried chicken camper and more. The new Bald Man Brewing Company tap room opens with some live classic rock.
Music: It’s not really a secret, but there’s still tix to the Summit Brewing‘s Big Backyard Bash with beer, Bob Mould, Bully, Bad Bad Hats, and many other non-B musicians. Harriet Brewing hosts a big Reggae Festival. One of the premiere events of Twincy: Tribute Town™, the Cover Me Impressed cover band party takes over Lake Monster Brewing. Metalheads and country music fans (what a combo!) should head to the Eagles Club for the Canthrammer Festival. Battery Boy and LOTT bring their excellent musical stylings to The Aster Cafe. PROF returns to the Cabooze outdoor stage with a bunch of guests. Jillian Rae and Sarah Morris team up for a big night of singer-songwriter performances at the Bryant Lake Bowl. The Sex Rays goes big right out of the gate with The Toxenes and Black Widows on their Grumpy’s residency.
Summer Fun: It’s Open Streets on West Broadway! Go cheer at the Waite Park Pushcart Derby in Northeast MPLS. Deschutes returns with their blocks-long street pub on 2nd St N in the MPLS Warehouse District. Get your TC Firefighters calendar signed at their block party at Fulton Beer. It’s the return of DJ Jake Rudh and Yacht Rock at Psycho Suzi’s, be sure to dress the part for your dancing.
There’s going to be a vegan donut pop-up shop at Reverie (and you can pre-order!). It’s the kickoff to Pizza Week with a pizza brunch party at Fulton Beer. There’s a benefit for the protestors/protectors at Standing Rock at the Minneapolis American Indian Center.
