Twincy, Filmtown™: Don’t forget there’s a bunch of really great films and parties happening around the killer Sound Unseen films about music festival, including Bad Rap, the documentary about the international impact of hip-hop, and Who Is Lydia Loveless, a film that follows the musical prodigy and her conquering of a post-music sales world. There’s also the Spanish- and Portuguese- Language film festival Cine Latino, for which we also have some recommendations.

Sounds: Very fun Afro-Latin groove machines Malamanya plays an early show at honeyRocket Appliances play Inbound Brewco with their buds in Earthquakes & Heartaches and Lakewood Cemetery. DJ Slamdunkapher’s new crazy dance night is Slip n Slide at the Kitty Cat Klub and describing it would be pretty NSFW.

Screen: Princess Mononoke is the Midnight Movie at the Uptown Theater.

Stage: Mathew Janczewski’s ARENA DANCES stops at The Fitzgerald the finale of its 20th Anniversary Season. We’ve heard good things about Marisol by José Rivera, “a dark fantasia that reflects the social and spiritual turbulence of the early 1990s” that’s at Rarig.

Saturday

Sounds: Icehouse is probably the best venue you could see Aby Wolf and Eric Mayson play a show. Third Annual KISS Music From The Elder Celebration is devoting a day to KISS. The Blind Shake play an intimate show at Hymie’s. Black Market Brass releases their album with Duffel at The Hook.

Food + DrankTBSP Waffle Pop-Up at Blackeye Roasting Co. Clockwerks Brewing, the first local steampunk brewery, has a grand opening celebrating.

Art: Are you excited for the big new Martin Luther exhibition at the MIA Mia? We’re excited to check out the new Soap Factory basement space, Gallery Four, for paintings and installations by University of Minnesota Professor Mathew Zefeldt. There’s two exhibitions opening at Rosalux, Cat’s Whisker Diode Pulses by Dan Buettner and Wander by Elaine Rutherford. Round out the art tour with a stop at SooVAC for Hot Chroma, with the physicality of oil paintings by Jordan Clark, Kayla Plosz, Matt Reimers and Jeremy Szopinski.
