Midweek News + Notes: Collectible Emails

Since many of our readers don’t read anything else besides chalk board drink specials, we feel we should share some of the important-to-you stories being shared around the SotC virtual water cooler so that you’re properly briefed before your happy hour. Btw, we also stopped reading everything else because it’s all so terrible. Just a warning.

News: Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has a new policy for deleting emails

Notes: Another big find for indie watchdog Tony Webster and following up on his find that the HCSO has been using un-publicized anti-privacy software, the Sheriff’s Office is deleting decades of emails and adopting a new policy of only retaining emails for 30 days. The HCSO says it’s due to the cost of archiving, but we’re also very suspicious of it’s anti-transparency motives and any connections to Sheriff Stanek’s future political aspirations.

News: The newly re-opened Paisely Park will feature regular Paisley Park “After Dark” parties starting this weekend.

Notes: Holy smokes we had a lot of entries, and a lot of great memories (including meeting the Purple One himself), for our Paisley Park ticket giveaway. Congrats to reader Susie E. (so close to Sheila E.!) on winning, we hope she enjoys responsibly. If you didn’t win, know that the venue will be launching dance parties starting this weekend, as well as a huge celebration to commemorate Prince’s death, and even selling replica cloud guitars (which we kind of want).
